Glasgow Mods Weekender 2009

The seventh edition of the Friday Street-organised four-day weekender playing the 'best in underground 60s dance music' was on the weekend of June 25th-28th. Various locations in Glasgow's Merchant City were used over the four night and two daytime events.

DJs for the weekend included residents Mikey Collins, Lenny Harkins, Paul, and guests Michael Wink (Berlin), Gav Arno (Pow Wow), Andrew Symington (Divine), and Holly and Sarah (Eyes Wide Open). Live bands present were The Laynes (on Thursday) and Berry Tweed & The Chasers (Saturday afternoon).

Around 200 scooters took part in the ride out through the city centre - twice as many as last year. Many people also remarked on how many young mods were at the evening and daytime events - as has been the case at other events this year. This wasn't just about the mods of the 'mod revival' days getting back together again, there is also a new breed taking part - new mods of the 21st century who will keep the scene alive in years to come.

The organisers - Friday Street - should be thoroughly congratulated on a fantastic weekend! For more info on the weekend or to contact the organisers visit: www.myspace.com/fridaystreet

Finally, here's a small dedication I made to friends no longer with us, who I know were in the thoughts of many people over the weekend. I think it's a testament to their memory and the times shared with them that so many people took part in the weekender. Thanks again to Friday Street.
